Saarländische Universitäts- und Landesbibliothek /
Saarland University & State Library
The Saarland University and State Library (SULB) was founded in 1950.
Together with the Homburg Medical Branch-Library, it is the central library of the Saarland University.
Since 1996 the library has also officially assumed the tasks of a state library. In 2006, a media resource collection of 1,351,246 items plus 6.030 current periodicals were available to visitors. In addition to the standard categories of books and audiovisual aids, electronic information plays an increasingly greater role: at present, more than 2,600 databases and 22,900 electronic journals can be accessed.

Media resources on the Saarland
As a State Library, we collect literature and audiovisual media on the Saarland. You can search online in our Saarland Bibliography for places, persons, and subjects. In addition, we collect all publications of Saarland publishers and organizations. You can now also borrow CDs and audio and video cassettes from us.

The Saar-Lor(raine)-Lux(embourg)-Alsace Literature Archive
The Saar-Lor-Lux-Alsace Literature Archive evolved out of the Gustav Regler Research Workshop (1978) and is now organizationally a part of the SULB. At present it offers researchers some two dozen estates and bequests, documents on publishing and institutional history, a reference library of some 2,500 volumes on borderland literature, sound documents, CDs and videos. An impression of the diversity of the material and of the developing range of digital resources is conveyed by the writer Alfred Gulden's survey "Mit allen Mitteln" (With All Means). It is based on the more comprehensive "ELSA" project (Electronisches Literaturarchiv Saar-Lor-Lux-Elsass / Saar-Lor-Lux-Alsace Electronic Literature Archive), which is being set up in cooperation with the Information Studies Department (Prof. Dr. Harald Zimmermann).

Psychology Special Collection Base
For over 40 years the SULB has been in charge of the Psychology Special Collection Base. You can borrow from us psychological literature of scholarly relevance from Germany and abroad. We also buy (to a limited extent) works of popularized scholarship; and we collect tests, CDs, and audio and video cassettes.
Since 1998 the German Research Society DFG has funded the development of an Virtual library of Psychology. The aim is to set up an Internet guide to psychological information sources accessible via the Internet as well as to CD ROM databases and printed reference works.
If you are interested in a particular psychological title, consult our online-catalogue (see the section on "SULB information centre").
