Funding requirements

Before submitting an application form, please check whether it is possible to cover publication fees from other funds (e.g. via publication grants from approved projects) - the publication fund is intended for members of Saarland University without alternative funding options.

The following requirements must be fulfilled:

  • A member of Saarland University is corresponding author or submitting author of the article and responsible for the payment of the publication fee.
  • The article is published in a fully open access journal (gold open access), whose articles are freely available online at the time of publication.

    • Articles published in subscription-based journals, so-called hybrid open access (for instance via Springer Open Choice) are not eligible for funding.

  • The APC does not exceed a maximum amount of € 2.000 inclusive 19% VAT (= € 1.680 excluding 19% VAT).

    • Partial funding of higher fees is not possible. In this case we recommend negotiations with the publisher. If you have any questions, please contact the Saarland University and State Library (SULB).

  • Funded articles should include the following acknowledgment: We acknowledge support by the Deutsche Forschungsgemeinschaft (DFG, German Research Foundation) and Saarland University within the funding programme Open Access Publishing.
  • After publication all funded articles must be published on SciDok.
