Universität des Saarlandes
Campus Building B1 1

Profile

The German studies section of the Philology Library functions as the library of the Department of German Language and Literature and contains approximately 100,000 items.

The most important collections are located in two reading rooms on the first floor (level 1) of the main library building. A plan showing how the collections are arranged is available here. All items in the collection are indexed in the Saarland OPAC online catalogue.

The focus is on primary works and secondary sources in the literature of the German-speaking regions and on German-language literature abroad. The library also contains material on cultural studies, on the methodologies and didactics of teaching German language and literature, as well as on German as a foreign language and German as a second language.

The section library also holds materials from the Austrian Literary and Cultural Research Unit / Robert Musil Research Group, as well as materials in the field of speech communication studies and in general and comparative literature studies. The library’s collection continues to be enriched by regular gifts of new publications in the field of Austrian literary and cultural studies that are kindly provided by the Austrian Federal Ministry for European and International Affairs.

The items in the German studies section of the Philology Library are shelved in accordance with the classification system previously used in the former library of the Department of German Language and Literature. Signs are in place in both reading rooms to guide you to the location of a particular classmark.
