Saarland University's publishing house universaar (Saarland University Press) is managed on behalf of the university by the Saarland University and State Library (SULB). Scholars and scientists at Saarland University can publish their academic work through universaar.
universaar is committed to the principle of open access publishing. All universaar publications can be accessed online free of charge. If requested by the author, a printed version will also be available for purchase.
The following can publish in universaar: members of the University Presidium, professors, professors who have been released from their duties or who have retired, junior professors, private lecturers, research assistants, full-time teachers for special tasks, doctoral students, employees the areas of administration and technology. In the case of edited volumes, not all contributors, just at least one of the editors, have to meet these conditions.
Universaar publishes monographs, including dissertations, and monograph-like works (such as conference proceedings). Universaar publishes books, not magazines. These books appear in the publisher's series. It is not possible to publish individual works outside the series. Authors for whom no suitable series exists are invited to organize a series in universaar together with colleagues or supervisors. Therefore, if you are interested in publishing a series, please contact us.
An electronic open access version is published free of charge for all users, as well as a printed version, which is available in bookshops, upon request. universaar will send the specimen copies to the German National Library. Your publications are permanently archived and indexed, i.e. they are listed in our catalogs and are therefore accessible to the scientific community worldwide as bibliographic evidence.

If you would like to publish your work at universaar, please send us the key data in our project form. It will help you and us plan your release. If you have decided to publish with universaar, we conclude a publication contract.
To create the print and online edition of your work, we need a print-ready PDF document. For this purpose, we provide you with templates and instructions for creating manuscripts. There are special design specifications for some rows. We're here to help.
Our typesetter creates the cover for your publication in the corporate design of our publisher. We carry out the formal check of your file and help you to create a print-ready pdf
Before a manuscript is published, you will receive a proof to get a picture of the print version.
If you have checked the test print, the print approval is given.
The offer includes book publications and magazines.
You can order our publications in local bookshops or through online booksellers.
